Cub Scout Pack 66 Pennies for Pets May was designated as Pennies for Pets month by Montville’s Cub Scout Pak 66. The scouts decorated collection cans to place in each classroom in William Mason and several classrooms at HilldaleSchool. They talked to each class about helping homeless pets by raising money to build a new shelter and also raising money for caring for animals currently at the shelter and offered an Ice Cream Party to the class that collected the most money.
Throughout the month the children dropped their coins into the collection cans and watched excitedly as the number of coins grew and grew. At the end of May the money was tallied.. $881.29 had been collected with Ms. Taaffe’s class collecting a whopping $167.16.
On June 16th members of Cub Scout Pack 66 presented a check for 881.29 to Sue Goldblatt and Jane Klemp of Montville Pet Parents. Mayor Neilson was also on hand to congratulate the scouts children on a job well done. Pet Safety tips were provided to the scouts and individual appreciation awards from Montville Pet Parents were presented to each scout by Cub Master Mike Bolen. A portion of the donation will be used to help build a new shelter in Montville. A plaque will be included on the celebration wall in the new shelter acknowledging this donation. Until the shelter is built Cub Scout Pack 66 School will be listed on the Naming Opportunities page of the www.MontvillePetParents.org site. The remainder of the donation will be added to the money set aside by Montville Pet Parents for Montville Animals Shelter each month to be used for care of the animals currently at the shelter
