The Montville Animal Shelter serves five towns - Montville Township, Boonton Township, Mt. Lakes, Lincoln Park and Morristown. The current shelter was built in the 1970’s and is approximately 580 sq. feet of indoor space .
Why Build A New Shelter? There are many reasons to construct a new facility to house the homeless pets in our community:
- Inadequate in providing a healthy environment for the animals.
- Quarantine for new arrivals and sick animals is currently in the old Department of Public Works garage. There is no quarantine area for dogs.
- There is poor air exchange in the facility
- Building materials are porous and difficult to clean.
- There not a positive experience for prospective owners. The shelter is located behind the old DPW Garage. It is crowded with high noise levels. There is no get acquainted or counseling area.
- Work areas are constrained making it very difficult for the staff and volunteers to work. There is no medical/procedure area and storage space is very limited.
- The outdoor exercise area for the dogs is very small and inadequate.
- Approx. 30 years old, it is also in need of repairs and increasingly expensive repairs.
How you can help: MPP is dedicated to raise money toward building a new shelter and has launched a Capital Campaign to help fund this effort.
